To His Excellency the Governor of the state of Texas,

We the undersigned citizens of the city

of Corpus Christi in the County of Nueces State of Texas

respectfully represent that but a short time since

Captain James Stuart was appointed and duly commissioned

as Branch Pilot for the Bar at the Aransas

Pass that he is now leaving for New Orleans and

that his situation as Branch Pilot for the said

Bar at the Pass of the Aransas is made vacant

and that the great increase of business by

the arrival of transports with Government supplies

and merchandise for the trade of this place and

the adjacent county We earnestly ask for the appo-

intment of Thomas B. Clubb to fill said vacancy

and can cheerfully recommend him to your

consideration for said appointment as our choice

and an effective sailor, energetic worthy

and competent to discharge the duties of a

Pilot on said Bar of Aransas and that the

demands for his services in that capacity

are absolutely necessary & would give

full satisfaction to the community who are

deeply interested that he receive the appointment

of Pilot & as in duty bound will ever pray.
